“Inwardly supporting” worship at Ware Church on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am is the Chancel choir, music lovers of all ages from high school through senior citizens. Director of Music Ministries Patti Taylor leads weekly rehearsals to prepare singers and instrumentalists to lead the congregation in the hymns, canticles and anthems to inspire our personal thoughts toward praising God. There’s a space in the chancel choir stalls waiting for you to sing along; no audition is required.
The Ware Church Choir School has successfully completed its first, full-year of “outwardly serving” children on the campus of Ware Church. Last year’s summer camp, fall and spring semesters touched the lives of well-over a dozen children from all over Gloucester, Middlesex and Mathews Counties. We learned the beginnings of reading notes and rhythms, sang with blended -tone, played diatonic bells and rhythm sticks.
Wonder at Ware offers a free, concert series presenting a wide variety of musical genres and talented musicians enhancing the lives of the people in our community. During the past 21-22 season we have enjoyed hour-long concerts in our historic sanctuary, followed by a reception to meet the artists in the parish hall. The season started in November with an energetic Irish band based in Williamsburg, VA called “Poisoned Dwarf”. The Gospel Quartet, “George Robinson and Friends” sang in February, and to celebrate International Jazz Day, Michael McNeill and Friends performed jazz classics, as well as original compositions on trumpet, bass, drums, and piano. In June Concert Organist Weston Jennings displayed the wide range of power and tone on Ware’s Cassavant Freres pipe organ.
We are pleased to have a close, working relationship with the Courthouse Community Orchestra which brings 25 musicians to the Ware Church campus every Wednesday evening for rehearsals. Additionally, the CCO presents a free, Christmas concert and Spring Concert to round-out our Wonder at Ware concert series. A free-will offering has supported the concert series along with generous support from the Ware Church Vestry.
